rFactor 2: mid-corner oversteer — what to change

What it feels like

Mid-corner the rear keeps sliding on its own and you are correcting with the wheel the whole way through.

Why it happens and what we're after

Mid-corner oversteer: soften the rear bar and spring (more rear grip) and add wing to stabilise the rear while loaded.

What to change, exactly

Ranges, steps and defaults are the REAL ones for this sim. The amount is expressed in the game's own unit so you can apply it without converting anything.

Parameters flagged as “estimated range” do not come from a verified in-game capture: the direction of the change is right, the exact magnitude may differ on your car.

  1. 1.Rear anti-roll bar

    Lower ↓ by 11 slider stepestimated range

    Range: 1 – 8 · Default: 3

    Rear axle roll resistance (position scale). Same criterion as the front. Stiffer = sharper rear and less rear grip. (concept confirmed, scale estimated)

    What changes when you move it this way

    Softer rear = more traction and rear stability; fixes oversteer.

  2. 2.Rear wing

    Raise ↑ by 0.5 °1 slider stepestimated range

    Range: 0.0 – 15.0 ° · Default: 9.0 °

    Rear wing angle: makes downforce at the rear. More wing = more grip, less top speed. (unit estimated by convention, range anchored to the verified GT3 value on the same engine in LMU)

    What changes when you move it this way

    More wing stabilises the rear in fast corners and braking, costing straight-line speed.

  3. 3.Rear spring rate

    Lower ↓ by 2000 N/m2 slider stepsestimated range

    Range: 80000 – 280000 N/m · Default: 140000 N/m

    Rear spring stiffness (N/m). With the front it sets the stiffness balance and how the aero platform works. (unit confirmed, range estimated)

    What changes when you move it this way

    Softer rear = more traction and stability, but more pitch and the rear squats on power.

How to apply it without losing your afternoon

  1. 01Change ONE thing at a time and run three clean laps before judging. Two changes at once and you no longer know which one worked.
  2. 02Start with the first parameter on the list: they are in the order the engine applies them, from the one with most authority to the fine tuning.
  3. 03If the change goes the right way but falls short, repeat the same step again before touching another parameter.
  4. 04If it gets worse, put it back. A setup you don't understand is slower than a baseline you do.

Where this sim stores its setups

rFactor 2 stores setups as .svm files in [Steam]\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\<your_name>\Settings\<track>\ (one folder per circuit). To import a community setup you drop the .svm into the matching track folder and load it from the garage screen. Le Mans Ultimate (same developer) inherits this exact file system. (folder structure by analogy with LMU; not verified against a real rFactor 2 install in this session)
