rFactor 2: understeer on corner entry — what to change

What it feels like

You turn in and the car keeps going straight: it washes wide before the apex.

Why it happens and what we're after

Entry understeer: move brake bias slightly rearward, soften the front bar, and lower the diff's coast lock so the rear helps rotate.

What to change, exactly

Ranges, steps and defaults are the REAL ones for this sim. The amount is expressed in the game's own unit so you can apply it without converting anything.

Parameters flagged as “estimated range” do not come from a verified in-game capture: the direction of the change is right, the exact magnitude may differ on your car.

  1. 1.Brake bias

Lower ↓ by 0.6 %3 slider stepsestimated range

    Range: 50.0 – 65.0 % · Default: 56.0 %

Percentage of braking sent to the front axle. Higher = more front brake. (unit and order of magnitude confirmed by multiple community guides)

What changes when you move it this way

More rearward helps rotation on the brakes, with risk of locking the rear and instability.

  2. 2.Front anti-roll bar

Lower ↓ by 11 slider stepestimated range

    Range: 1 – 8 · Default: 4

Front axle roll resistance (position scale). rF2 models it as a physical bar diameter converted internally to stiffness via a non-linear formula (not a direct N·m/° value) — shown here as a position scale, same approach as the rest of the catalogue. Stiffer = less relative front grip. (concept confirmed, scale estimated)

What changes when you move it this way

Softer front = more front grip and rotation; fixes understeer.

  3. 3.Coast lock (off-throttle)

Lower ↓ by 5 %1 slider stepestimated range

    Range: 0 – 100 % · Default: 30 %

How much the differential locks when lifting off the throttle (engine braking). Affects how the car enters a corner when you lift. (concept and unit confirmed, value estimated)

What changes when you move it this way

Less coast lock = the rear rotates more on lift-off, with more risk of entry oversteer.

How to apply it without losing your afternoon

  1. 01Change ONE thing at a time and run three clean laps before judging. Two changes at once and you no longer know which one worked.
  2. 02Start with the first parameter on the list: they are in the order the engine applies them, from the one with most authority to the fine tuning.
  3. 03If the change goes the right way but falls short, repeat the same step again before touching another parameter.
  4. 04If it gets worse, put it back. A setup you don't understand is slower than a baseline you do.

Where this sim stores its setups

rFactor 2 stores setups as .svm files in [Steam]\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\<your_name>\Settings\<track>\ (one folder per circuit). To import a community setup you drop the .svm into the matching track folder and load it from the garage screen. Le Mans Ultimate (same developer) inherits this exact file system. (folder structure by analogy with LMU; not verified against a real rFactor 2 install in this session)

If that wasn't it

Symptoms get confused with each other: what feels like poor traction is very often oversteer on throttle. These are the other diagnoses for this sim.

The same problem in other sims

Same symptom, different parameters: each game exposes different sliders, with other units and other ranges.
