RaceRoom Racing Experience: tyres overheating — what to change

What it feels like

Grip falls off after two or three laps and temperature or pressure climbs past the window.

Why it happens and what we're after

Overheating tyres: lower pressures (official wiki: higher pressure heats the centre more) and reduce camber slightly to spread the heat.

What to change, exactly

Ranges, steps and defaults are the REAL ones for this sim. The amount is expressed in the game's own unit so you can apply it without converting anything.

Parameters flagged as “estimated range” do not come from a verified in-game capture: the direction of the change is right, the exact magnitude may differ on your car.

  1. 1.Front tyre pressure

    Lower ↓ by 2.0 psi4 slider stepsestimated range

    Range: 20.0 – 32.0 psi · Default: 26.0 psi

    Cold front tyre pressure (confirmed unit: PSI, source: official Steam forum thread citing '26-27+ PSI' read on screen). The official wiki recommends tuning it by comparing inside/middle/outside temperatures in the setup screen's tyre info panel. (slider range estimated)

    What changes when you move it this way

    More contact patch and mechanical grip, but sidewall temperatures rise (the wiki: sidewalls take more load at lower pressure).

  2. 2.Rear tyre pressure

    Lower ↓ by 2.0 psi4 slider stepsestimated range

    Range: 20.0 – 32.0 psi · Default: 26.0 psi

    Same as front but on the rear axle: affects traction and rear stability. Same source and same estimated-range criterion.

    What changes when you move it this way

    More traction and rear stability, until pressure drops so low it overheats.

  3. 3.Front camber

    Raise ↑ by 0.1 °1 slider stepestimated range

    Range: -5.0 – -0.5 ° · Default: -4.0 °

    Wheel lean seen from the front (degrees, documented real example: -4.0°). The wiki recommends tuning it by comparing inside/outside temperatures in the tyre info panel: aim for the inside to run 5-10° hotter than the outside. (slider range estimated)

    What changes when you move it this way

    Toward 0 (less negative) spreads heat more evenly inside/outside, but lowers lateral grip while loaded.

  4. 4.Rear camber

    Raise ↑ by 0.1 °1 slider stepestimated range

    Range: -4.5 – -0.3 ° · Default: -2.8 °

    Rear axle camber (documented real example: -2.8°), typically a bit less negative than the front. Controls how much lateral grip the rear has in corners. (slider range estimated)

    What changes when you move it this way

    Toward 0 improves straight-line traction but the rear grips less laterally.

How to apply it without losing your afternoon

  1. 01Change ONE thing at a time and run three clean laps before judging. Two changes at once and you no longer know which one worked.
  2. 02Start with the first parameter on the list: they are in the order the engine applies them, from the one with most authority to the fine tuning.
  3. 03If the change goes the right way but falls short, repeat the same step again before touching another parameter.
  4. 04If it gets worse, put it back. A setup you don't understand is slower than a baseline you do.

Where this sim stores its setups

RaceRoom lets you save and load named setups right from the garage screen ('There is an option to save and load setups', source: official wiki), and copy/paste a full setup between cars with Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V in-game. No public source was found confirming an exportable on-disk file format (unlike ACC/iRacing/AC1/rFactor2 in this catalogue): the verified way to share a community setup is to enter the values by hand in the game's editor.
