Le Mans Ultimate: tyres overheating — what to change

What it feels like

Grip falls off after two or three laps and temperature or pressure climbs past the window.

Ready-made LMU setups with every value explained — PDF + JSON, one-time payment.

Why it happens and what we're after

Overheating tyres: lower pressures to reduce core temperature and reduce camber slightly to spread the heat over long stints.

What to change, exactly

Ranges, steps and defaults are the REAL ones for this sim. The amount is expressed in the game's own unit so you can apply it without converting anything.

Parameters flagged as “estimated range” do not come from a verified in-game capture: the direction of the change is right, the exact magnitude may differ on your car.

  1. 1.Front tyre pressure

Lower ↓ by 6 kPa6 slider stepsestimated range

    Range: 110 – 180 kPa · Default: 131 kPa

Cold front pressure (kPa). LMU targets a hot temperature/pressure window; you start below target because pressure rises with heat. (estimated range)

What changes when you move it this way

More contact patch and predictable grip, but slower warm-up and the tyre flexes too much if too low.

  2. 2.Rear tyre pressure

Lower ↓ by 6 kPa6 slider stepsestimated range

    Range: 110 – 180 kPa · Default: 131 kPa

Cold rear pressure (kPa): affects traction and rear stability. Same target window as the front. (estimated range)

What changes when you move it this way

More traction and rear stability, until pressure drops so low it overheats from flex.

  3. 3.Front camber

Raise ↑ by 0.1 °1 slider stepestimated range

    Range: -4.5 – -0.5 ° · Default: -1.3 °

Wheel lean seen from the front. More negative = more cornering grip (better patch while rolling), less under braking/on straights. (estimated range)

What changes when you move it this way

Toward 0 improves on-throttle traction and straight-line braking, but lowers lateral grip while loaded.

  4. 4.Rear camber

Raise ↑ by 0.1 °1 slider stepestimated range

    Range: -4.0 – -0.5 ° · Default: -1.2 °

Rear axle camber: how much lateral grip the rear has in corners without losing too much traction. (estimated range)

What changes when you move it this way

Toward 0 improves straight-line and exit traction, but the rear grips less laterally.

How to apply it without losing your afternoon

  1. 01Change ONE thing at a time and run three clean laps before judging. Two changes at once and you no longer know which one worked.
  2. 02Start with the first parameter on the list: they are in the order the engine applies them, from the one with most authority to the fine tuning.
  3. 03If the change goes the right way but falls short, repeat the same step again before touching another parameter.
  4. 04If it gets worse, put it back. A setup you don't understand is slower than a baseline you do.

Where this sim stores its setups

LMU stores setups as .svm files in [Steam]\steamapps\common\Le Mans Ultimate\UserData\player\Settings\<track>\ (one folder per circuit). To import a community setup you drop the .svm into the matching track folder and load it from the Setup Area screen. It inherits the rFactor 2 system.

If that wasn't it

Symptoms get confused with each other: what feels like poor traction is very often oversteer on throttle. These are the other diagnoses for this sim.

The same problem in other sims

Same symptom, different parameters: each game exposes different sliders, with other units and other ranges.
